Youth Ministry Is intended to foster higher ideals in kids and give them the chance to gather in settings and situations that will help them be better and compassionate people. ALWAYS a good thing....I'm all for it. |
| So, I'm really pulling the satire trigger here, as I've no complaint with the kids. I do have concern over the person in charge getting paid a salary to do this...too easy to end up with a desire to prove you are doing something with no concern for what it is. And if the person completed the Lay Ministry under Sister Poppycock, then you have a good chance that it's Willy Wonka and the Fudge factory in charge. |

Feed the poor is always a good thing to teach the kids. But I see lots (here and in other denominations)of fundraising and food gathering...and then a party bus to drive them 100 miles away to the Metro to "feed" the poor living under the bridges. Like the poor only live there in their natural habitat. |
| I guess doing meals here in-town for the many homeless we have here is not as fun or glam. The must be more attractive in Des Moines. But I don't begrudge the poor, anywhere! |

My only concern to state is keep a self-critical eye on WHAT and WHY you are doing this. Make sure the kids get the right message and are in it to help, not just self-exhalt for doing a good deed. Otherwise yer' just beating your bird. |
